The Mobile Medical Unit on Highway 3

On the road again, just can’t wait to get on the road again . . .

Willie Nelson’s famous song may well have been the anthem for BC's Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) this year. Our team wrapped up the busiest year to date with exactly 200 days logged on the road between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. The number of days on the road is more than double what the team did last year (75) and up significantly from our first year of deployment, when we logged 37.

This past fiscal year, we celebrated many milestones including:

  • the MMU’s maiden trip to Northern Health Authority
  • first partnership to provide care on First Nations’ land
  • our longest deployment to date in Kitimat from November 9, 2013 to March 1, 2014, where we assisted with the hospital’s emergency department renovation.

In addition to our first voyage to Northern Health Authority visiting the communities of Prince George and Terrace, we also made deployments to: Pemberton, Vancouver, Golden, Revelstoke, Tsartlip First Nation, Saanichton, and Kitimat.

We’re excited to share the team has already received requests for deployment ahead of schedule compared to previous years, and the requests continue to come in. We’re now in the planning stages for another exciting year of travel throughout the province. Stay tuned as we confirm deployments for the 2014/2015 fiscal year over the coming weeks and months.

The MMU team would like to extend a big thank you to our partners and stakeholders across the province who continue to help make the MMU a success, including our Advisory Committee members, as well as all those who contributed to deployment planning and operations.

We look forward to another great year with opportunities for continued development of the MMU as a provincial program!
